The Ultrastar 18LZX boasts of features such as GMR advanced head technology, No-ID sector formatting, Predictive Failure Analysis, Drive TIP (Drive Temperature Indicator Processor), and load/unload technology. One of the top performers in the range, the Ultrastar scored a drive index of 16989, 11.82 MBps in High End Disk Winmark, 25.65 MBps beginning transfer rate and 14.49 MBps end transfer rate. The disk access time was the lowest (8.94 ms), but the CPU utilisation was the highest (3.22 percent) in this category. With high performance figures of 168.99 I/Os per second and 5.91 ms average I/O response time logged through Iometer, this drive came second in our performance charts. However, with a cost per MB of Rs 2.36, this drive is also the most expensive in its range.
